Free Music Friday – Charleston's Longest Running Live Music Showcase – To End October 23

CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Charleston's longest-running live music showcase Free Music Friday will end on October 23 with a six act super showcase.

This viking funeral of a musical event will replace the annual Doppelgangers Ball in order to celebrate all of the great music that has taken place at Top of the Roc over the years.

Free Music Friday provided a space for hundreds of musicians to perform their original songs. In response, audience members and musicians constructed an incredibly strong community where friendships were made, partnerships forged, and bands created.

The news of Free Music Friday ending came unexpectedly as the events were still incredibly popular and filled with top-notch musical acts. However, it was this popularity that ultimately led to complications with rights organizations and other bureaucratic factors.

Free Music Friday contributed to Charleston's identity as a city supportive of music and the arts. Dozens of touring musicians commented on how remarkable of a music scene that Charleston had due to these showcases.

Cavetone Records has no current plans to move Free Music Friday to a new location and would like to thank Top of the Roc for absolutely everything they have done for the Charleston community. They upheld every promise that they ever made and they set a high bar for doing things the right way.

The event has a special early start time of 8 p.m. and includes Free Music Friday favorites (The Ex-Bombers, The Good Dinosaurs, and Ryan Noir), two one-night only supergroups (The Useless Na Na Nas [the former Pretty and the Useless] and Danger Cat, Etc. [Members of about five former and present groups]), and one amazing out of town act (Condor and Jaybird). Doors open at 7 p.m., there is no cover, and madness will occur.
